According to a September 26, 2012 article appearing in Homeland Security Today, perceptions of GIS in the Homeland Security community have been rapidly changing. GIS is no longer being seen as simply a way to electronically produce maps, but rather as a geospatially based suite of tools that can fuse multiple data streams into visual real-time situational awareness.
