As part of its effort to crowd source The National Map (TNM), the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) recently introduced a recognition program as a way to reward contributors. TNM volunteers will receive a thank you letter and an online badge commensurate with their level of contribution to the effort. As an individual contributes enough additional data points to reach sequentially higher levels, he or she will move up the badge ranks from Order of the Surveyor’s Chain, to Theodolite Assemblage.
