True to their word, on May 15, 2014, the nation's four major cellphone providers (Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, and Sprint) began providing a Text-to-911 capability on their systems coast to coast. Unfortunately, because local call answering centers (PSAPs - Public Safety Answering Points) must be configured to handle this type of communication, the impact was not immediately noticeable for John Q.
